Sunshine Is the Best Medicine: The Healing Power of Truth, Transparency & Radical Honesty

We hear all the time that sunshine is good for the body — Vitamin D, warmth, energy, all of that. But the older I get, the more I realize that sunshine is even better for the soul. Not the sunshine outside, but the sunshine we create inside our lives when we choose truth, transparency, and complete open honesty.

Because the real healing happens when nothing is hidden.

For so long, I tried to manage life in the shadows — holding in my feelings, minimizing my pain, pretending I was okay, and keeping certain truths tucked away because they felt too heavy, too messy, or too complicated to bring into the light. But shadows don’t heal you. They keep you stuck. They keep you spinning. They keep you small.

It wasn’t until I started bringing everything into the “sunlight” — the real, raw, unfiltered truth — that things began to shift.

Sunshine is clarity.

Sunshine is accountability.

Sunshine is freedom.

When there is trouble, challenge, confusion, or chaos, the most powerful thing you can do is bring it into the light. Speak it. Name it. Look at it. Tell the truth about it. Because what we avoid grows. What we hide festers. But what we expose to the sun begins to calm, correct, and clear itself.

Living in the sun is healing and healthy.

It’s choosing honesty over image.

It’s choosing transparency over pretending.

It’s choosing courage over comfort.

It’s choosing to face what hurts so you can finally move through it.

The sunlight doesn’t judge you — it reveals you. And revelation is the beginning of restoration.

Every time I’ve told the truth — the whole truth — something inside me has softened. Something has opened. Something has healed. Whether it was heartbreak, disappointment, fear, or confusion, bringing it into the light helped me see it clearly and move through it with intention instead of avoidance.

Sunshine is the best medicine because it removes the guesswork.

It removes the shame.

It removes the weight of carrying things alone.

So if you’re in a season where things feel heavy or chaotic, try stepping into the sun. Tell the truth — to yourself, to God, to the people who love you. Let the light in. Let it warm you, guide you, and show you what’s real.

Because healing doesn’t happen in the dark.

Healing happens in the sunlight — where truth lives, where clarity grows, and where you finally get to breathe again.
