I’m sharing a story that has shaped me in ways I’m still discovering. This chapter of my life is personal, sacred, and rooted in reflection and healing. I’m talking about my kidney donation journey — not just the medical side, but the spiritual, emotional, and deeply human experience of saying yes to something bigger than yourself. This journey started quietly for me. It wasn’t dramatic. It was a nudge, a whisper, a feeling I couldn’t shake. I didn’t know much about living donations at the time, but something in my spirit kept saying, “Pay attention.” And if you’ve ever felt that kind of pull, you know it’s gentle but persistent. There came a moment when I knew I was going to say yes. Not because it was easy or convenient, but because I felt called. I talked to the people closest to me. I prayed. I wrestled with fear and uncertainty. And even after all of that, the answer was still yes — a yes rooted in faith, love, and trust that if God brings something to your heart, He will also bring you through it. The testing process was intense. There were appointments, scans, bloodwork, and long conversations. It was physical, emotional, and logistical. But every step felt like confirmation. Every cleared test felt like God saying, “Keep going.” I prepared my body, my mind, and my spirit, knowing this wasn’t just a medical procedure — it was purpose in motion. Surgery day is something I’ll never forget. I woke up with a mix of fear, peace, surrender, and purpose. I remember lying there before anesthesia thinking, “God, I trust You. Use me.” Recovery was real. It stretched me physically and emotionally. There were moments that surprised me — moments of strength I didn’t expect and moments of vulnerability I didn’t want to admit. Some days were harder than I imagined. Some moments were more beautiful than I ever anticipated. But through all of it, I felt held. I felt guided. I felt changed. Donating a kidney changed the way I understand sacrifice. It changed the way I see my body — not as something to critique, but as something capable of giving life. It deepened my faith. It softened me and strengthened me at the same time. And it shaped the way I show up in my work — in healing, empowerment, and community. It reminded me that purpose isn’t always loud or glamorous. Sometimes it’s quiet. Sometimes it’s costly. Sometimes it’s a yes that nobody else understands. And somewhere in that journey, I chose me — sober, celibate, and renewed in my Christian faith. The donation saved me as much as it saved my dad. It became the turning point where obedience met redemption, where sacrifice became restoration, and where I learned that healing often begins when we surrender. If there’s one message I want you to take from my story, it’s this: strength doesn’t always look like pushing through. Sometimes strength looks like surrender. Sometimes strength looks like obedience. Sometimes strength looks like choosing love in a way that stretches you. And sometimes strength is simply saying yes to the thing God placed on your heart — even when it scares you. You don’t have to donate an organ to understand this. You just have to be willing to listen to the call on your life, trust your body, trust your spirit, and trust that God will meet you in the yes. Thank you for listening and for holding space for this part of my journey. If this story speaks to you, share it with another woman who needs a reminder that strength comes in many forms — and that purpose often lives on the other side of obedience. Until next time, keep choosing healing, keep choosing empowerment, and keep choosing you. |
